Backstory
Mr. Kelly G. Park is a retired sandlot athlete, never having the skills to “take it to the next level” but enjoying every moment of those pick-up games. As a Certified Safety Professional, Kelly has worked in the insurance industry as a safety and risk manager since 1988.
Kelly has always enjoyed reading from the time he was a grade schooler waiting for his teacher to hand out the next Scholastic Book order form. As Kelly got older the number of books he read dwindled to barely one a year until he picked up a book about Shoeless Joe Jackson and the 1919 Chicago White Sox. That book jump started his interest in reading and suddenly he was reading baseball biographies of Shoeless Joe’s era.
He eventually picked up the book, The Glory of Their Times and found the stories within this book to be a retelling of many stories he had read about in the player biographies. Fascinated by reading stories from a different player perspective, Kelly began searching for a similar book. During his search he read a reviewer state that he felt like he was on the field with the players because the book was so well written. As a retired sandlot player, Kelly’s thoughts were not about being on the field with the Pros but of his memories of playing youth baseball. It was that thought that ultimately lead him to begin interviewing former professional baseball players and gathering the stories that make up Just Like Me: When the Pros Played on the Sandlot.
Just Like Me: When the Pros Played on the Sandlot is the Author’s debut book.
I found baseball at 6 years of age and along the way found great memories and great friends.
